For some reason I had put off tasting this wine as I was anticipating a big, rich wine with rustic tannins. I certainly didn’t need to worry about this 2018 from Seguin-Manuel. It is a refined, complex stunner. Vibrant red. Aromatic nose, red berries, particularly raspberry, plums, violets, spice and earth. Sappy fruit, very fresh and lively with a hint of wildness. The palate is supple, layered and long with a savoury finish. There is a silky texture in the mouth as the tannins are very fine. Balance is exceptional for a vineyard that can sometimes be a little assertive in its youth. I noted how the wine reminded me of Les St-Georges in aromatics, structure and class.
