Grenache and Syrah. Vine age 30-50 years. Cropping level 25-30 hl/ha. “Our Grandfather was among the first winegrowers to plant Syrah in Vacqueyras in the 1960s. The vines were planted on the marly and clayey-sandy slopes and are in a way the signature of the estate. They are exposed East-West, so the sun warms the bunches very early in the morning allowing a significant synthesis of sugars. In addition, the sandy soils are very poor, resulting in a low yield. The grapes are harvestedmanually and are destemmed but not crushed in order to optimize the fruit. Fermentation lasts between 20 to 25 days depending on the vintage. Thus, we obtain a wine with powerful and persistent aromas of red fruits, spices and violets due to its higher proportion of syrah. Its dark red color and strong tannins in its youth are also characteristics of Syrah wines.”
