Santenots is a very old and interesting vineyard. Despite its attribution to Volnay it lies entirely within Meursault. The clay in the soil produces wines of full body and rich texture. Jasper Morris MW states “This has always been a highly-reputed site amongst the Volnay Premier Crus rated as Tete de Cuvee by both Lavelle and Rodier – though the wines really need age to show their merit."

Informal mixed bag wine tasting event in Oslo. Not enough time for detailed tasting notes. Great Volnay-Santenots. Deep, dense and developed. Really mature red fruit. Still some vibrant young fruit left. Raspberry, cranberry and cherry. Light dark fruit of black cherry. Green herbs of fennel and sage. Earthy tones of mushroom and forrest floor. Light barrel of toast, nutty and oak. Good concentration and intensity. Good acidity and ripe tannins, silky grip. Long finish. Very good, rich and elegant. 4.5 Stars (out of 5)
