The history of the PIGUET-GIRARDIN estate is quite brief. Anne-Marie and Dominique united in 1985 and created the domain with the eponymous name. The two young people were then under 30 years old and both from families with a secular winemaking tradition (more than 10 generations). Anne Marie is from the Girardin family of Santenay (which includes Justin Girardin in our portfolio) and Dominique from the Piguet family from Auxey-Duresses.

They initially gathered 6 hectares inherited on both sides from their parents as well as sharecropping exploited by Dominique before their meeting.

At the beginning of the 1990s everything changed, the biggest owner of sharecropping sold; the survival of the domain was jeopardized. However, Dominique and Anne Marie redoubled their efforts and did not let themselves be discouraged. They decide to embark on very heavy investments such as the acquisition of plots of vines and the extension of the winery in order to no longer find themselves in such a situation.

The estate then grew through acquisitions in the villages of Auxey-Duresses, Pommard, Chassagne-Montrachet and Meursault throughout the 1990s and 2000s.

The largest plot of the estate, it is located north of the village of Santenay bordering the vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet, facing south, south-east, on a medium slope covered with light gray limestone marl which provides ideal drainage for the cultivation of the vine. This parcel is full of stony scree rich in iron oxide which gives it an advantage for the cultivation of pinot noir. These screes will come to bring a rich structure and a unique elegance. Nose of intensely fruity aromas of gooseberry, plum and black cherry enhanced with notes of white pepper and kirsch. Nervous, fleshy and ample, this wine has character and a beautiful structure. The finish, meanwhile, is long and fruity. Aged 100% in oak barrels for 12 to 15 months with 20% new barrels of medium to strong toast. Vines were planted in 1980/1992.
