The history of the PIGUET-GIRARDIN estate is quite brief. Anne-Marie and Dominique united in 1985 and created the domain with the eponymous name. The two young people were then under 30 years old and both from families with a secular winemaking tradition (more than 10 generations). Anne Marie is from the Girardin family of Santenay (which includes Justin Girardin in our portfolio) and Dominique from the Piguet family from Auxey-Duresses.

They initially gathered 6 hectares inherited on both sides from their parents as well as sharecropping exploited by Dominique before their meeting.

At the beginning of the 1990s everything changed, the biggest owner of sharecropping sold; the survival of the domain was jeopardized. However, Dominique and Anne Marie redoubled their efforts and did not let themselves be discouraged. They decide to embark on very heavy investments such as the acquisition of plots of vines and the extension of the winery in order to no longer find themselves in such a situation.

At the threshold of a valley which sinks into the Hautes-Côtes to the west of Meursault, the village of Auxey was a dependency of the Abbey of Cluny in the Middle Ages. In the extension of Volnay, the mountain of Bourdon offers the vine a south-east orientation: it is the terroir of pinot noir. The very fine soil of Mont Mélian, on the other side of the road, is conducive to Chardonnay. The three climates are located at altitude, on the plateau overlooking Auxey-Duresses. The soils are light of a marl-limestone nature, always well drained with a slight slope. The maturities there are very good. The result is a fruity, very mineral wine with a surprisingly pale color with gold-green reflections. The nose offers notes of vanilla and white fruit, such as pear. The palate is round, with notes of citrus and fresh almond. The finish is chiseled, on the mineral with a slightly iodized note. Aged 100% in oak barrels for 12 months with 30% new barrels. Vines were planted in 1962/1964/1973.
