Burghound
A highly expressive and relatively high-toned, even perfumed, nose speaks of red cherry, raspberry, violet and a whiff of plum. There is a bit more volume and richness to the seductively textured medium weight flavors that are also quite fine, indeed the texture is finer than usual on the lingering, balanced and harmonious finish. This too is very Volnay in basic character. (Drink starting 2027)

A small holding of three ouvrées. Glowing crimson with a slightly sterner nose, but there is altogether more density of fruit here over and above Robardelles. All the class shows towards the back and there are some minerals too in the liquid black and red fruit. Very good

The 2019 Volnay Ronceret 1er Cru comes from a tiny 0.13-hectare parcel of old, east-west orientated vines. It has a more floral bouquet than the Robardelle, with rose petal and iris scents percolating through the red and blueberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, gentle and silky smooth, quite intense on the finish, though I find that the Robardelle has just a touch more precision. Still, this is very fine.
