Where does Nuits-St-Georges end and Vosne-Romanee start? The Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Rue de Chaux lies at the northern end of the 1er Crus south of the township. It is quite a way from Vosne-Romanee. Yet one could easily be confused. There’s a slight earthy note that sends you south but the aromatic nose has more in common with Vosne-Romanee. There’s dark berries, cherry, truffles, smoke, freshly turned earth. Some sweet spice. It is all set in a cool and refined framework, the hallmark of winemaker Jerome Chezeaux. Jerome is an ex-rugby player. He’s big, and strong. Yet his wines are always polished and elegant. Dare I say feminine? He makes his Nuits-St-Georges with a deft hand and the tangy orange peel acidity on the end of this wine makes it impossible not to return for another taste. This is fine Nuits from a great vintage.
