(from a .23 ha parcel). A spicy and slightly fresher nose features notes of red and blue pinot fruit and menthol along with warm earth nuances. The seductively textured, round and well-concentrated medium-bodied flavors possess excellent complexity and a bit more refinement as well on the balanced and lingering finish that is markedly firm but not rally rustic. Very fine quality here and this is well-worth considering. (90-93)/2028+
Chauvenet own parcels in seven Nuits Premier Crus including Les Vaucrains, Les Damodes and Les Bousselots but it is their small 0.23 hectare parcel in Les Perrieres that has me gob-smacked in 2016. The wine combines red and black fruits in a lifted, aromatic nose with minerals in spades. It is fresh and vibrant yet deeply flavoured with subtle spices playing in the background. 1/3 new oak contributes to the freshness and ensures the wine remains lifted and aromatic. This is really fine NSG Premier Cru with an elegant character yet never losing its stamp of origin. Only 3 barrels produced in 2016. Very fine quality.
The 2016 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Perrières 1er Cru has a comparatively opulent bouquet with lush red cherries and cassis aromas on the nose. The oak is nicely integrated, thankfully not overbearing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine bead of acidity, quite rounded and packed full of juicy black and red fruit with a sorbet-fresh finish. Well made and full of joie-de-vivre. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2022-2040).
