Jean-Michel’s 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet is a brilliant young wine. It delivers a deep, vibrant and nascently complex bouquet of lemon, apple, pear, a great base of chalky soil tones, spring flowers, a judicious framing of new oak and plenty of citrus zest in the upper register. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, complex and perfectly balanced, with a great core of succulent fruit, superb soil signature, a superb girdle of acidity and a very, very long, complex and stunning finish. (Drink between 2031-2075). 97 Points
Rich and buttery, with aromas of ripe apple, apricot and quince, accented with oak spice and floral notes. The texture is solid but retains admirable elegance, with moderate weight and enough acidity to bring the wine into a luxurious balance. The grapes are from a small 0.12ha parcel in Chassagne, near the border with Puligny; they are lightly crushed and fermented in cask (40% new), where it will stay over two winters.
