Darren Harris: Very deep garnet. Bright. Full, round and deep on the nose with cherries, plums and pomegranate. Plenty of body from the old vines with juicy fruit and a smooth mid palate texture. With a little air the wine opens to reveal more layers of fruit and spicy/tangy elements. The wine is quite intense without heaviness, finishing with fine tannins. Give it a few years and watch it blossom into a classic Chambolle of great style.

Burghound

A more elegant and slightly cooler nose reflects notes of elegant red currant, pomegranate and a pretty floral hint. The racy, intense and beautifully well-detailed medium weight flavors exude a refreshing salinity on the mildly tangy and lacy finish. This is very Chambollesque. (Drink starting 2024)

This comes from lots of small plots representing half of their three hectares. The same dense purple colour and somewhat backward nose as the Marsannay. This is properly classy on the palate though, dark fruit which has retained freshness, a nice spike of acidity at the back, and good length. Tasted: November 2019.

Wine Advocate - William Kelley

Wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, raspberries and plums mingled with raw cocoa and candied peel, the 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes is medium to full-bodied, velvety and charming, with a ripe core of nicely concentrated fruit, powdery tannins and lively acids. This cuvée saw one of the later malolactic fermentations of the range and took its time to come together, but it is more and more promising.
