James Suckling
The floral nose of this Volnay 1er Cru has an interesting, biscuity note that pulls you into the richly fruity and supple palate that’s so easy to enjoy right away. Then, at the long and beautifully crafted finish, you feel the surprisingly solid tannic base behind all the charm. Drink or hold. 93 Points
Brisk mid purple, with not very much developed on the nose yet. The palate offers a little more tension, a classy structure with just enough acidity, and a lovely deep fruit at the persistent finish. Plenty here to grow over the next few years.
The 2020 Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru, which includes one-third whole bunch, has a well-defined bouquet with raspberry, briary
A notably more floral-suffused and elegant nose features notes of lavender, violet and rose petal on the coulis of red raspberry, dark currant and a variety of spice elements. The middle weight flavors are finer though not denser with excellent definition and a plenitude of minerality on the youthfully austere and refined finish. This chiseled effort is gorgeous and should age effortlessly. (Drink starting 2032).
