The 2020 Pommard Village, completely de-stemmed, has a fragrant nose with a mixture of red and black fruit, a touch of wilted rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite sturdy, a little curt on the finish but it should flesh out with bottle age.
Glowing purple, with the faintest volatility on the nose. Rather impressive density if deep cherry fruit, good structure, the tannins are ripe not rustic and there is very good length. The volatility is ephemeral, so I back this to develop well.
A ripe yet still attractively fresh mix of red and dark cherry and plenty of earth influence gives way to detailed, intense and appealingly textured medium-bodied flavors that deliver first-rate length in the context of a villages-level wine. Moreover, the mouthfeel is unusually refined as there is almost no rusticity. A quality effort. (Drink starting 2027).
