Dense purple, perhaps some plums to the nose, a rich fruitcake style at the front of the palate, sterner stuff behind, some wood tannins along with those of Gevrey, but the fruit sails on through. Good length and weight. Tasted: December 2018.

The Gevrey-Chambertin village Aux Chezeaux is from a small lieu-dit owned by the Mercier family, and located quite close to the Chateau in Gevrey-Chambertin. Quite forward with lovely fresh berry notes - fine complexity. On the palate good depth and intensity - classic Gevrey village - driking very well.

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from three vineyards, two in the south of the appellation on alluvial and clay soils, and one below Les Cazetiers next to Arnaud Mortet's winery. Blended with 20% new oak and around 25% whole bunches, it has a well defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and sous-bois aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, offering a mixture of black and blue fruit and conveying fine tension and energy on the finish. Not enormously long in the mouth, but refined and delivering all the fruit you want from a Village Cru. This comes recommended. (Drink between 2021-2030)
