This is a beauty with gently mulled raspberry and boysenberry fruit flavors gliding along and laced with licorice, floral, garrigue and incense notes. Lovely swirl of black tea through the finish as the fruit lingers. Offers a very solid, underlying structure too. Best from 2024 through 2038.

Another thrilling wine, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Cornelia Constanza has overflowing amounts of black raspberry and framboise-like fruits as well as flowers, spicy garrigue, and herbes de Provence aromatics. All Grenache, it’s medium to full-bodied and has silky tannins, a round, layered texture, and a heavenly finish. It reminds me slightly of the 2007 with its exuberant, sexy style. It too will shine for 15 years.
One of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf du Pape and run by the Lançon family, Domaine de la Solitude covers over 80 acres of prime real estate in the la Solitude lieu-dit, which borders the famed La Crau lieu-dit and is in the center of the appellation. The wines today are made by the talented Florent Lançon, and they produce up to five reds and three white Châteauneuf du Papes in any vintage. The estate doesn’t like to submit barrel samples, so I wasn’t able to look at any of the 2020s, but unquestionably, 2019 is a great vintage at this address.
