Butteaux is the southernmost of three Premier Cru climats that make up the wider Chablis Montmains Premier Cru umbrella title. Butteaux's steep slope and its limestone-rich soils mark it out as a high-performing terroir. Chardonnay-based wines from Butteaux tend to be powerful and steely, with subtle characters of stonefruit and apple.
Currently still in barrel after vinification in tank. Clear mid lemon yellow. This has some precision despite carrying the usual weight of this vineyard where the flesh builds on the palate like the right bank. Lovely generous fruit yet with tension. Very good this year. Drink from 2027-2033. 91-94 Points
Yellow fruit, spice, ripe lemon, green olive and aniseed. It’s firm and fleshy, but has quite some energy, the acidity is present and sits so well within the wine, the texture is all crushed stone and chalk dust, and the finish is long, with ginger, lemon and honey in the aftertaste. There’s a subtle parmesan rind savoury character too. Needs maybe another year to settle, but such a good an emphatic bottle of Chablis here. 94 Points
