Les Mitans is a 3.98 hectare vineyard on the eastern side of the village. It was first mentioned in the records in 1236. The vineyard has light, stony topsoil and produces one of Volnay's most elegant and delicate expressions.
Gorgeous deep jewel-like colour. Bright. Very floral nose of dark cherry, spices, crushed stone, cocoa powder and anise. It is a delightful melange. On the palate these nuances expand and violets come to the fore. The aromatics are very reminiscent of Romanee-St-Vivant. The fruit is dark, fresh and quite juicy, yet savoury, with chalky acidity, crushed rocks and fine grained tannins combining on the finish. The juxtaposition of ripe and savoury, spice and florals is engaging. Stated alcohol is only 13% which explains the elegant power.
