Located just south of the village, Les Crots has richer, darker, deeper fruit flavours. Spice, plum, earth and violets.
The first bottle of 2020 Red Burgundy opened from our latest container.
Wow! I wasn’t expecting that! The wine stains the glass with a majestic purple-blue hue. It is deep, dark and almost impenetrable. My companion says that’s a wonderful colour. I think 1999 – the only other vintage I recall with this much depth of colour.
The nose delivers what the eyes promise. It is powerful with violets, black and blue plums, blackberry, crushed stones. There’s spice. And liquorice in the background. It is captivating and deep, deep, deep.
In the mouth the wine is intense, fruit-driven and spicy – notes of nutmeg and cinnamon. The tannins are completely coated with just a little sinew adding to the length. I assume very old vines. I write intense for the fifth time. And seductive. I check the alcohol. It is 13.5%. Bravo Fabienne!
