Domaine du Pavillon Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. Trophies Galore!

"A superb and serious Grand Cru!"
Domaine du Pavillon produce an extraordinary Corton-Charlemagne every vintage.
Located in the "Les Languettes" climat on the south/southeast side of the Corton hill, the plot, which once belonged to the nuns of the Lieu-Dieu Abbey, was nicknamed “Vigne Dieu” by the old wine merchants and historians of Aloxe-Corton. A terroir renowned for its white wines whose power, due in part to its location on the hillside. The wine shows finesse, delicacy and purity, on both an aromatic and gustatory level.
Our first shipment of 2019's arrive next month. The new 2020 and more 2019 which will ship second half of the year. We do not have a lot of either vintage remaining.

Pale white gold colour. Magnificent nose of coconut cream, melon, honey, lime and white blossom. Palate has almost eye watering concentration. Long, firm, mineral finish. A superb and serious Grand Cru! 96 Points, Gold Medal, Trophies for the Best Corton-Charlemagne, Best White Burgundy, Best French White Wine and Best International Chardonnay

Two parcels combine to form this wine: one mid-slope and another at the top of the slope. This is as impressively big as one would expect a Clos to be, yet in contrast, it shows delicate fresh herb and yeasty notes. On the finish, the wine is an echo chamber of its concentration and needs time to settle down. 2025-34. 96 Points

In spite of the ripe-orange and exotic-fruit character that pours from the glass, there’s nothing superficial about this wine. Thanks to its generosity and very attractive fruit, this makes a very friendly initial impression on the palate, then the intense minerality comes through, building to a serious crescendo at the very fresh finish. Drink or hold. 96 Points

Full yellow, just when you think the bouquet is going to be rich and ripe there is a certain balancing grassiness, and they use a little more wood here. Grassy and grapey, with a little heat at the back and now the wood kicks in. This needs longer elevage and may well come out at a higher level. 92-95 Points

1.5 hectares worth from 2 plots.
Similarly open to the Vaudésir but this nose is characterized by an airy volume. Nicely incisive, showing a fine and pure minerality – growing in intensity too. Framed with a faint tannin this wine has a bit of everything. Poised, almost a little tension. I think a great grand cru – the finish narrower but far from a modest length.

From Les Languettes. Glowing fresh yellow, with plenty of energy and a light overlay of oak. There’s a lot going on here. Superbly concentrated without being overly weighty, good acidity, this Corton-Charlemagne is in a fairly bombastic rather than lightly stony style. 92-95 Points

This could almost be mistaken for the Chablis Grand Cru. Restrained nose. Pebbly/mineral palate. Lime zest adds complexity to the light peach/green-apple fruit. Stony finish with depth and length. Will age very well. (AWH) (Drink between 2024-2035). 17.5+/20

In Languettes 1.20,ha.
Like all the whites a width of more golden, ripe fruit. Sinuous, beautifully shaped, slowly mouth-watering and very long. I think there’s great potential here but this wine is in the same stage as most of the others….
