A slightly more deeply pitched nose reveals a wide range of spice and floral elements along with notes of plum, dark currant and a whiff of wood. The sophisticated, intense and impressively concentrated medium-bodied flavors also brim with minerality that adds a touch of lift to the sappy, complex and strikingly persistent finish. This caressing effort is really quite lovely and I particularly like the balance. SWEET SPOT WINE 2028+

More subtle than their Chabiots on the nose, and there’s a piquant spiciness to the palate which seems unusual but not unpleasant. Fine tannic paste on the palate - very much ready to drink in that regard. Vivid acid too, and the finish has grandeur and dogged persistence.

In one sense, this is barely a négociant wine since the grapes are purchased from Alain Serveau, Bichot’s long-term winemaker. It’s a wonderful expression of this famous Grand Cru in all but name, with some whole bunch sap, lacy tannins, and the kind of sweet, succulent berry fruit that drives Pinotphiles wild. 2022-30.
