Super aromatic! I see raspberry, sour cherry and a little background spice. Rather Vosne-Romanee in style. The same raspberry is on the palate which is silky and wonderfully textured. The wine is vibrant, lively, juicy, fresh with just a hint of development after 3 years in bottle. It finishes with crisp acidity which further enhances the freshness. Drinking beautifully - a testament to the great 2016 vintage.

The Volnay Robardelle 1er cru is one of my favourites here - from a terroir located in the lower southern end of the appellation. The nose is brimming with red fruit … cool and quite refined with a nice chalky note - or at least so it seems. On the palate juicy and generous red fruit .. very charming indeed.

Robardelle was first mentioned in 1481. Cloudy and chalky deep ruby. Feminine black fruits, ground nutmeg, semi-dried violets and an almost dull spice of cayenne pepper. Palate is pure silk, acidity is polished and tannin is very low/soft and well integrated. Very approachable young and in a wonderful drinking place with 5 years age. Gently smoked wood mushrooms, vibrant balance of black and ripe red fruits with a long finish.
Simply delicious! Pair with river fish like smoked trout or salmon, hard cheeses, duck leg or even classic Cantonese dishes.
