Meursault Santenots is an interesting vineyard. It lies on the border of Volnay and most of the vineyard is planted to Pinot Noir. However, a few producers including the Maarquis d’Angerville and the Douhairet family, have parcels of Chardonnay. The Douhairet’s have 0.3 hectares of vines that average 80 years of age. And that makes for a special wine.

Nose of pear, white pepper, a little smoky gunflint. It is an aroma that you return to as it attractive and beguiling. There is old vine intensity on a long, textured palate with the cool white fruit and pepper notes swirling around the acid spine. This is a savoury wine with plenty of extract and mouth feel, but no excess ripeness or fat. The balance is terrific. For lovers of white Burgundy this is quite unique and is a must-try wine.
