Domaine Morey-Coffinet was created in 1978 from two established estates - those of Michel’s father Marc Morey and his wife’s father Fernand Coffinet. There has been a significant program of investment to improve the cellar and equipment. The winery and cellars are located under a splendid 19th century mansion at the top of Chassagne. The magnificent 16th century vaulted cellars are amongst the most impressive in the village.
The process from vineyard to bottle is quite traditional with minimal use of chemicals. After racking the whites are given a light bentonite fining and are bottled unfiltered. The aim is to preserve the fresh aromas. Morey-Coffinets white are not big wines. They are wine of subtlety and nuance with the fruit framed, rather than dominated, by oak. There is pleasure to be had in their youth but like all good white burgundy as little age adds more complexity.
Thibault Morey's skills were recognized in 2010 when he was presented the prestigious "Discovery of the Year" award by the French Wine Magazine Bourgogne d'Aujourd'hui.
