The move into our new warehouse has turned up some interesting wines. Amongst our discoveries was a lovely range of aged Domaine Chevillon-Chezeaux Nuits-St-Georges 1er Crus supplied by the domaine and put away for a dinner some time ago.

 

It is now time to do the dinner! Nuits-St-Georges has the ability to cellar for decades and this dinner will highlight the ageabilty featuring two of the communes finest vineyards - Les St-Georges and Les Porets (aka Les Porret-St-Georges).

 

Les St-Georges is Nuit's most famous vineyard. It has made representations for promotion to Grand Crus status which many argue is well deserved. Les Porets is another serious vineyard. Jasper Morris MW says "The vines grow on deepish, gravelly soil, a mixture which helps to make one of the most striking wines of the appellation, tight in structure in youth and with some powerful, slightly wild aromatics; more liquorice and game than plums or red fruits". 

 

Domaine Chevillon-Chezeaux was created in 1887 by Eugène-François Chevillon, who inherited from his father Symphorien Chevillon some parcels of vines. He was succeeded by Eugene Chevillon and then in 1946 by his two sons, Georges and Maurice. In 1947, Domaine Georges Chevillon grew with the acquisition of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "Les St-Georges". In 2000, their granddaughter Claire and her husband Philippe Chezeaux her husband renamed the domaine Chevillon-Chezaux. The husband and wife are well connected. Claire is a cousin of the owners of Domaine Robert Chevillon and Philippe is the brother of Jerome from Domaine Jerome Chezeaux, who is also in our portfolio.

 

The dinner will feature 16 Nuits-St-Georges 1er Crus all sourced direct from the domaine. This includes an intriguing (and rare) bracket of white 1er Cru Nuits-St-Georges from the Bousselot vineyard going back to 1999, a bracket of the new 2016 Reds, then verticals from Les Porets and Les St-Georges.

 

This is an opportunity to taste a range of aged Burgundy direct from the domaine.

 

The venue is Yagiz, across the road from our Toorak Rd store. The food is Turkish with a unique, modern twist. We will enjoy this stylish cuisine in the restaurant's lovely private dining room. To read more about Yagiz click here.
