A Special Dinner with the Winemaker .... this Friday


Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair winemaker Laurence Ollivier (nee Fougeray) will be in Melbourne this Friday as part of a whirlwind southern hemisphere tour. Laurence works with her husband Patrice Ollivier to produce a range of wines from some very interesting vineyards in the Cote de Beaune and Cote de Nuits.


“Most famous for their Bonnes-Mares and their ‘Clos Marion’, the family business of Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair was founded about 1979 when Jean-Louis Fougeray, the father of the current owners, a man who by day worked in administration and by night tending his vines, made his very first cuvée. It was from a quarter hectare of Marsannay vines – in the family since 1972 – this was the start for Domaine Fougeray.” The Burgundy Report


Today, the domaine is somewhat larger and continues to expand its holdings with new acquisitions.


The Domaine has airfreighted a selection of wines for a dinner. For any Burgundy lover this is a great opportunity to not only explore the domaine but to see wines from a number of vintages not yet available in Australia. We will serve some fascinating wines including the 2017 Bourgogne Blanc Cuvee Vin Orange 2017 (yes 2017), four 2016 whites plus the Bourgogne Rouge Couer de Femme 2016 (Laurence’s special project). We will finish up with a range of 2015 reds including Fixin Clos Marion Monopole and the mighty Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. This Bonnes-Mares is particularly interesting as it is the only wine bottled from the small parcel of this Grand Cru within Morey-St-Denis.

I appreciate that we have not provided much advance notice. However, opportunities to meet Burgundian winemakers in Australia don’t come along too often and this promises to be a most interesting evening.


The domaine has graciously provided the wines free of charge. So the cost of the dinner is just $100.00 to cover food, corkage and service. Peter Roddy, at Noir in Richmond, will present a 4 course meal to accompany the wines.
