Magnificent Moutonne Grand Cru Monopole "Sheer delight"!‏

Moutonne

A high tech vineyard!

A wine of "sheer delight"!

Domaine Long-Depaquit are the sole owners of the small (2.34 ha) but revered Grand Cru vineyard MOUTONNE.

It is located at the heart of the amphitheatre straddling the Grand Crus Vaudesir and Les Preuses. It has a south south-west exposure and with its very steep slopes (almost 40 degrees) and kimmeridgian outcrops it is well protected from the north winds.

Spring frosts can still be a problem and the domaine has gone to the unusual lengths of installing environmentally friendly heated electric wires. To combat worms that feed off the grapes there is an electrical system that causes "sexual confusion" in the worms and destroys their ability to reproduce.

The extra care in the vineyard produces a wine of rare character. Moutonne is a Grand Cru Chablis with the style and complexity of a Grand Cru white from the Cote d'Or. It is a wine of intensity and precision, elegance and finesse with extraordinary length. Austen Biss, writer of A Guide to the Wines of Chablis says "They are usually wines of sheer delight".

We have received our allocation of the 2012 vintage. Production is down and so is our allocation. We have a tiny 30 bottles of this unique wine to offer this year!

Moutonne Label Tim Atkin MW: A blend of 95% Vaudésirs and 5% Les Preuses, this is frequently among the best Bichot whites, showing their skill with Chablis fruit. Made with 25% new oak, it's an ambitious, concentrated wine that nods towards the Côte de Beaune in style, combining stone and citrus fruit and attractive vanilla undertones. 2014-22. 95 Points

And Another Top Grand Cru

Les Clos

The best known and most loved wine of Chablis. It is the largest of the Grand Crus and the epitome of Grand Cru Chablis. The wine is powerful, yet gentle with great depth and appeal. It is mineral and full and capable of extended cellaring.

Long-Depaquit own two parcels, one mid slope, the other at the top, totalling about 2.5 ha. The wine mid slope provides more richness, the top more acidity. The two plots are blended.

Tanzer: (40% oak): Pale bright yellow with green highlights. Distinctly riper on the nose than the Blanchots, with a yellow peach scent complemented by white pepper, spices and a soupcon of smoky oak. Concentrated and impressively rich, with lovely mineral and floral lift to the flavors of crushed yellow fruits and bitter almond. A hint of finishing bitterness gives this long, powerful, broad-shouldered wine freshness and grip. No shortage of extract here, but a bit hardened today by the gas. 91-94
Normally $117.95
Pre Arrival Price $99.95
At under $100 a bottle this is great value!
