The Stunning 2012 Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru from Albert Bichot‏

Bichot Latricieres Header

Silky, perfumed and long. A brilliant Grand Cru at a decent price!

I visit Albert Bichot and the respective domaines at least once a year to taste and buy the latest vintage. Each year, it seems, one wine screams out to me as being very, very special. In 2010 it was Grand Echezeaux, in 2011 it was Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses and in 2012 it was Latricieres-Chambertin.

The biggest problem is that all of these wines are produced in tiny quantities. And unfortunately, in 2012, there is just a single barrel of 2012 Latricieres-Chambertin! So that mean just 300 bottles for the entire world!

We're a long way from the centre of the Burgundy universe but we have still managed to secure a very handy allocation of this great wine.

Before I tell you more perhaps I should declare my love of Latricieres-Chambertin. For me this is the most Chambolle-like vineyard of Gevrey-Chambertin. Great Latricieres is always lacy, elegant, perfumed and long. The French say arien - a word that sits somewhere between airy and ethereal. It should have compexity and intensity but be light on its feet. It is the Gevrey version of Le Musigny.

I suggest yon't miss this opportunity to purchase the 2012 Latricieres-Chambertin at our Pre Arrival Price which saves you 15% on the landed price. As an extra bonus if you buy an unbroken case of 12 bottles we'll give you an additional 5% discount.

Wine Advocate: The 2012 Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru is straight-laced on the nose: prim and proper black fruit with tertiary notes developing. The palate is very fine with a chalky opening, crisp acidity and slightly brittle tannins. But the fruit profile is very pleasurable with blackberry, a touch of mulberry and raspberry. It actually builds nicely in the mouth and challenges the Chambertin in terms of length. Look out for this as it is one of Bichot's top performing 2012s92-94 Points

I think the wine is even better than this tasting note. It is complex and layered with a very long finish. And for a Gevrey Grand Cru from 2012 it is well priced.

Bichot RSV Label

Last 6 Bottles of 2009 Romanee-St-Vivant

The 2012 has vintage has seen some substantial price rises for Grand Cru Burgundies.

The big name vineyards have seen the largest increases and wines such as Richebourg, Romanee-St-Vivant, Musigny and Chambertin are becoming prohibitively expensive.

The last 6 bottles of this 2009 Bichot RSV look to be extremely good value.

Medium dark. Nose of plum, blueberry, spice, rose and violets, fragrant and quite feminine. The palate is similar; supple with an appealing level of ripeness and juicy extract on the mid palate. Complex and refined. Not a heavy weight but expressive with lovely aromatics and a fine, long finish. For all this the wine is quite tightly wound and one senses that with more time it will really blossom.
