An extraordinary bottle of wine from 1939 - the year the Spanish Civil War ended and the Second World War began. Rioja has the ability to age for enormous lengths of time and this bottle is no exception. The fruity, vanillan flavours of youth morph into complex nuances of tar, rose and sous bois.
I opened a bottle of this wine in March 2014 and was delighted to find the wine very drinkable. It had aged most gracefully - the oak and tannins seen in young Riojas had softened and the wine was a real pleasure to drink. There was sweetness of fruit and a fine, supple palate.
If you only like fruity young wines this will not be for you. But if you are adventurous and would like to try something very special, for just $315.00 you can sample a wine few have the opportunity to experience.
We have 16 bottles remaining from two original cases purchased overseas. Why not share a bottle with some friends and split the cost?
A great gift idea for someone born in 1939!
