Superb Grand Cru White Burgundy at a terrific price
For lovers of Grand Cru Whilte Burgundy we have a deal for you.
Once again it is Morey-Coffinet who consistently out-score the big names. The Morey-Coffinet Batard-Montrachet 2011 was scored 94 Points by Burghound. On the other hand the more famous Domaine Leflaive Batard-Montrachet 2011 was scored 92-94.
Burghound: (from a .13 ha parcel of vines planted in 1996 located on the Chassagne side). There is a mild touch of reduction and if you're going to try a bottle young, I would strongly advise decanting it first. Otherwise, a pure nose of ripe and ever-so-mildly exotic yellow orchard fruit, honeysuckle and fennel aromas complements perfectly the equally ripe and distinctly powerful broad-shouldered flavors that brim with palate coating dry extract that helps to buffer the very firm acidity on the tight and explosively long finish. This is markedly dry and intense but not especially austere and I suspect that 5 to 7 years will be sufficient to begin enjoying, though I suspect that it will require most of a decade to reveal its full, and considerable, potential. Either way, this should be a very imposing wine when it's fully ready. 94 Points
And once again the price is a big consideration. We offer the Morey-Coffinet Batard-Montrachet 2011 at just $250.00 a bottle (normal price is $335.00). That is around half the price of the lower scoring Leflaive.
