Alex Gambal Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne 2011
Normally $148.95
Special $111.71
Burghound: There are hints of vanilla and wood spice to the lemon peel, floral, pear and wet stone aromas. There is a seductive mouth feel to the very suave and round medium weight flavors that exude a fine minerality on the extract-rich and tension-filled finish. This is quite attractive and about the only nit is that it is carrying a bit more wood than I can personally warm up to. A Sweet Spot Wine. 90-92 Points
Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Chateau de la Maltroye Monopole 2009
Normally $125.00
Special $93.75
Tanzer: Bright yellow-green. Reticent but pure aromas of lime, mint and minerals; give this some air. Minerally on entry, then sharply delineated in the middle, offering lovely detail and floral character. A bit youthfully strict today and quite dry on the finish. This needs at least two or three years to expand in the bottle. 92 Points
Henri Boillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embrazees 2011
Normally $139.00
Special $104.25
Burghound: A discreet application of oak surrounds the notably ripe aromas of several different yellow orchard fruit scents along with hints of the exotic. There is an appealing succulence to the broad-scaled flavors that manage to retain a fine sense of detail on the lightly mineral-driven, saline and vibrant finish. If this can add a bit more depth with time in the cellar my score may prove to be overly conservative. 90 Points
Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Fairendes 2011
Normally $115.00
Special $86.25
Burghound: (Fairendes is a sub-climat of Morgeot and this particular wine comes from a parcel of 70+ year old vines). This also combines discreet wood nuances with exotic yellow fruit aromas that include apricot and mango with a top note of lemongrass. There is an abundance of dry extract on the voluminous and very suave medium weight flavors that possess fine depth on the powerful, balanced and lengthy finish. This isn't as fine as the best here but it's a very fine example of the appellation. 91 Points
Domaine Paul Pernot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne 2011
Normally $135.00
Special $101.25
Burghound: A discreet application of wood sets off notes of honeysuckle and exotic yellow fruit aromas. There is excellent mid-palate volume to the delicious and well-detailed medium weight flavors that exude a lovely minerality that adds lift to the complex, balanced and lingering finish. This is a harmonious effort that delivers fine quality. A Sweet Spot Wine. 91 Points
Domaine Latour-Giraud Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres 2011
Normally $135.00
Special $101.25
Burghound: (from 40+ year old vines from a huge 2.5 ha parcel in Genevrières Dessus). An expressive and distinctly spicy nose features naturally exotic notes of citrus confit, apricot and peach. The middle weight and utterly delicious flavors are finer than those of the Charmes with superb punch and detail plus borderline painful intensity. I very much like the mineral streak that adds lift to the clean, balanced and linear finish that is almost delicate. Lovely. A Sweet Spot Wine. 92 Points
