Melbourne's first dinner for 2014 features the tremendous Prestige Cuvee Chateauneufs from Domaine de la Solitude 2000-2010
Direct from the domaine's reserve stock we have secured a small quantity of the three different Prestige Cuvees made by Domaine de la Solitude spanning back to 2000!
Domaine de la Solitude traces its history back to the 13th century. Most unusually it produces all of its wine from a single 38 hectare holding in the lieu-dit called La Solitude, adjacent to the famed rocky plateau of la Crau.
The three Prestige cuvees which will be featured at the dinner are:
Cuvee Cornelia Constanza: named after an ancestor. It is 100% Grenache from 100+ year old vines. Only around 3,000 bottles are produced and only in top years. First produced in 2005.
Cuvee Barberini: named after the forefather Francois Barberini, the first in the line, and Maffeo Barberini who became Pope Urbain VIII. It is a blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mouvedre from the oldest vines and is only produced in top vintages. First vintage was 1999.
Cuvee Reserve Secrete: A powerful, sumptuous wine made from around half Syrah and Grenache with a little Mourvedre. Around two thirds of the wine is aged in new barriques for 16 months. First vintage was 2000.
The wines will be accompanied by a 3-course dinner at The Smith - a great venue for any serious wine event.
We will start with canapes and Drappier Champagne, followed by three courses accompanied by 12 different Chateauneuf-du-Papes. And we will also have a little surprise to finish. The value of the wines we will open is well over $2000.00.
The dinner features many rare, aged wines and also includes the 2009 and 2010 of all three cuvees! Click here to see the wine list.
