Domaine Paul Pernot 2012 Whites - Classic wines from Puligny-Montrachet

Pernot 2012 Header

A range of benchmark white Burgundy from Puligny-Montrachet

Domaine Paul Pernot is, by Burgundian standards, quite large at 20 hectares. The best wines are domaine bottled but much of the production is under contract to negociants (particularly Maison Joseph Drouhin).

However, things are changing. The new generation has different ideas and skills and the tremendous vineyard holdings are now starting to be maximized by the domaine.

Domaine Paul Pernot dates back to 1959. The original domaine was 10 hectares, much of which was fallow due the difficulties post World War II. Paul and his father replanted the best land in the 1960s and '70s and as Clive Coates says  "After thirty years of non-cultivation, the vines did well and are now in their prime and producing superlative wine".

Pernot Bienvenues Label Pernot's holdings include the Grand Crus Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet and the serious Premier Crus Les Pucelles, Les Folatieres, Clos de la Garenne and, for the first time in 2011, Champ Canet (normally sold to Drouhin). The vineyard holdings in Les Folatieres are large (3.08 hectares) but the rest of the vineyards are all well under a hectare.

With around 80% of production sold off to negociants it is not surprising that these wines are hard to find.

The 2012's will arrive next month and we are pleased to present a fine selection including the Grand Crus Batard-Montrachet and Bienvenue-Batard-Montrachet. The wines are aromatic with power, richness and flavour and a long, dry finish. They are very more-ish. Classic Puligny if you ask me!

Chartron Batard Label

Domaine Jean Chartron White Burgundies

We are fortunate to have two exceptional but quite different Puligny-Montrachet domaines in our portfolio.

Domaine Chartron was established in 1859 and today is run by Jean-Michel Chartron.

The quality of the wines from this domaine has been on the rise for the last five or so years and today they more often than not outscore the wines of Domaine Leflaive.

The range includes the Grand Crus Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne.

Amongst the Premier Crus there are two exceptional Monopoles - Clos de Caillerets and Clos de la Pucelles. These wines in particular are always of Grand Cru quality.

If you appreciate serious White Burgundy from Puligny-Montrachet I suggest you take a look whilst the wines.
