Brilliant Reviews, tiny quantities
Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur is a Volnay and Meursault specialist. The domaine was founded in 1860 and is a tried and true standard bearer for all that is fundamentally good and sound in Burgundy: conscientious and sensitive work in the vineyards, respect above all for the specific character of each lieu-dit, patience and attention to detail in the cellar, and a commitment to producing wines of depth and, of critical importance, longevity.
Today the wine making is handled by Francois Bitouzet who, like many of his generation, has improved and refined the domaine's style. In terms of character, the domaine's wines are models of typicity, finesse and elegance.
The domaine produces an excellent range of Volnay 1er Crus and some lovely Meursault including the exceptional 1er Cru Perrieres. Their Volnay vines come from the father's side and the Meursault vines from the wife's family. It is a good combination!
We have just received confirmation of our reservation for vintage 2012. As we have advised in recent weeks 2012 is another terrific vintage but the quantities produced, especially in the Cote de Beaune, are very small. In the case of Bitouzet-Prieur where production is usually 3 barrels in 2012 there is just 1. That means 300 bottles of some wines for the whole world!
Antonio Galloni's reviews of the 2012 Reds have just been published and Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur has received excellent scores. Ratings of 91-93 and 92-94 makes these wines must-haves. OIf course, the high scores will mean great demand across the globe.
