Wonderful quality but tiny quantity...
Our 2012 Burgundy campaign is about to start in earnest. It is a wonderful vintage, particularly for reds, but the quantity produced is very small. Burghound says "2012 produced many really lovely wines that should provide for delicious drinking early on yet be capable of amply rewarding mid-term cellaring and in a few cases, they will be as long-lived if perhaps not quite as long-lived as the 2010s. Moreover there is fine transparency to the wines such that the underlying terroir is very much on display. The high levels of dry extract and relatively fine grain of the tannins combine to create seductively suave textures that avoid any sense of heaviness as there is good freshness and sufficient acid verve to maintain the finishing balance." "Another aspect that I admire about the 2012s is their transparency to the underlying terroir. They really are classically styled burgundies but with a bit more early accessibility than the word classic would suggest. This transparency is considerably aided by the strong sense of vibrancy because despite the vintage's relatively high level of ripeness the wines taste alive in the mouth. They're ripe yet they are what the French call digest, or refreshing where one sip invites the next. They have that Goldilocks factor, which is to say that they're not too much of any one thing and are therefore just right."
Today we feature the wines of Domaine Jean Chauvenet. Chauvenet is a small family-owned domaine of just 10 hectares. The domaine produces 9 appellations (in regular years) specializing in some of Nuits-St-Georges most interesting vineyards.
The wines are always very well reviewed, rating up there with Gouges and Chevillon, and the 2012's are no exception.
We present the range of wines produced in the small vintage of 2012 from Bourgogne Rouge up to the mighty Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains. To view them all, read Burghound notes, and to order on line click here.
If you would like to secure some of these wines please act quickly as quantities available are very limited.
