Chateau Simian - Another HOT Chateauneuf-du-Pape Producer in our Portfolio

Simian Header

Our third new Chateauneuf-du-Pape domaine - Chateau Simian -

Another HOT Property!

Chateau Simian is located in Piolenc at the foot of the Massif d'Uchaux not far from the town of Orange.

Marcelle Ladret inherited Chateau Simian from Sophie Simian in 1920. With her husband they renovated and expanded the vineyards. Their daughter Madeleine married Yves Serguier, a young winemaker from Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

Successive generations have expanded the estate to around 27 hectares of which 5.8 hectares are in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyards are in three lieu-dits located at the very north of the appellation: Cabrieres, La Bertaude and Palestor.

Agriculture Biologique All of the vineyards are grown organically and biodynamically.

They produce two red Chateauneuf-du-Papes - Les Traversier which is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% each Mourvedre and Cinsault and Grandes Grenachieres d'Hippolyte which is a blend of 95% Grenache (80+ year old vines) and 5% mixed varieties. Only about 4,000 bottles of this prestige cuvee are produced. They also have two very interesting Cotes-du-Rhone Villages including the new La Louronne.
I know from experience the wine that interest my clients is the Prestige Cuvee Grandes Grenachieres d'Hippolyte. It is a rare wine (only 4,000 bottles as mentioned above). Robert Parker describes it as "an amazing wine". We have been fortunate to be allocated some 2009 and 2010 in both bottle and MAGNUM! If you love ancient vine Grenache this wine is a must-have.
Our Pre Arrival Prices save you at least 15% on the landed prices. If you want some of the top cuvees please act quickly. The wines are on the way and will be here next month.

Simian Grenachieres 2009 Stephen Tanzer:
Full ruby. Black raspberry, incense, potpourri and exotic spices on the intensely aromatic nose. Vibrant and precise but deeply concentrated too, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors that show liqueur-like power but an almost shockingly fresh quality as well. Finishes with gentle tannic grip and outstanding cut and persistence, leaving notes of candied red fruit and star anise behind. 93 Points

Simian Hippolytes 2010 The Rhone Report:
An incredible old vine cuvée (95% Grenache and 5% assorted varieties, from vines planted in 1888 and 1948) that's aged all in tank, the 2010 Château Simian Châteauneuf-du-Pape les Grandes Grenachieres d'Hippolyte offers up a pure, essence of Grenache-like profile of sweet black raspberries, lavender, melted licorice, and assorted wild flower like aromas and flavors. Voluptuous, hedonistic, and with layers of sweet fruit, it flows onto the palate with no hard edges, awesome purity of fruit, and masses of sweet, velvety tannin. Full-bodied and incredibly concentration and rich through the mid-palate, it stays gorgeously focused and clean on the finish. It's knockout stuff that should shine for upwards of two decades. Decant if drinking anytime soon. 96 Points

Simian Jocundaz 2010

Chateau Simian Cotes-du-Rhone Massif d'Uchaux

A superior wine in MAGNUMS!

The top Cotes-du-Rhone include the name of the village or area like this one.

Massif d'Uchaux Côtes-du-Rhône Villages is a very small area of just 550 ha divided amongst 17 domaines. It is a heavily wooded area.

Jeb Dunnuck, The Rhone Report on the 2009: A seriously impressive Côtes du Rhône, the 2009 Château Simian Côtes du Rhône Villages Massif d'Uchaux Jocundaz, a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Syrah, delivers a classical array of sweet red fruits, dried garrigue, licorice, spice cabinet, and pepper on the nose. Screaming southern Rhône on the nose, it is every bit as impressive on the palate and possesses a medium+ bodied mouth feel, loads of sweet fruit, and enough acidity and tannic structure to keep it focused and clean on the finish. Well worth seeking out, this should easily continue to impressive for 5-6 years, if not longer.

We have the 2009 and 2010 available in Magnum! They are great buying at just

$59.50 a Magnum Pre Arrival
