A Delicious Cotes-du-Rhone for an amazing $18.32 a bottle!
We have opened Chateau Beauchene Cotes-du-Rhone 2011 many times at tastings, parties, dinners and bbqs. Not once has anyone said they do not like the wine. The wine has plenty of flavour and interest, but is not heavy and rich. It is a real crowd pleaser with drinkers of all types.
I originally selected the wine from about 60 wines tasted at Vinexpo Hong Kong in May 2012 and a large number of samples sent to Australia. It has proved to be a fine decision.
The Bernard family has lived in Orange since the 17th century. Originally tenant farmers, the Bernards were to profit from the social upheavals of the French Revolution, buying their first vineyard soon after the conflict in 1794. This vineyard is still in their hands today.

Tasting note: Bright crimson-black colour. Fresh cherry, raspberry, violet and spice on the nose. On the palate the wine shows freshness with fine balance. There are dark and red fruits with a some spice, liquorice and garrigue. Medium weight, quite mineral and without any jammy notes. Subtely complex. Pure and clean. Nicely juicy, supple and very drinkable. I like this a lot for its balance and life. Everything is in the right place.
If you are looking for a great drinking red for Christmas, functions, parties you cannot go wrong with this wine. It is delicious!
