Beaune from the great 2010 vintage
just $44.00 a bottle by the Case!
Another serious bargain!
Domaine Maillard Père et Fils was established in 1766. Since then, it has changed village several times to settle finally in Chorey-les-Beaune in 1952.
Today, the domaine comprises 18 hectares in seven communes. Pascal Maillard looks after the marketing and winemaking. His brother, Alain Maillard, is in charge of operations in the vineyards. They are are the tenth generation of the Maillard family.
I first tasted the Domaine Maillard Cortons at the Grands Jours de Bourgogne last year. I was very impressed and planned to visit but simply ran out of time at the end of the trip.
In June this year I made sure they were my first stop. My original interest was in the Corton Grand Crus but I was very surprised at the quality of the Villages wines - and what great value they were.
All of the wines are extremely well priced. The red and white Cortons, both from the great 2010 vintage, are tremendous value at $125.00 a bottle (particularly the white which is usually 25-50% more than the red). And the Villages wines start at $41.50. There is something for most Burgundy palates here.
Not reviewed by Burghound, we delight in presenting another high-quality, great value, discovery.
The domaine's Beaune from the great 2010 vintage stuck out as an absolute bargain.
Domaine Maillard Beaune Rouge 2010
Normal Price $55.00 a bottle
Pre Arrival Price $46.95
Pre Arrival Price per Dozen $528.00 (=$44.00 a bottle)
40% new oak shows just how serious they are about making a Beaune of quality, even at Villages level. Another vibrant wine. Medium colour. From a single, and quite special, parcel of 50 year old vines. Cherry and cherry pits, elegant but with nice depth of flavour from the old vines. Classic style Beaune finish with fine, detailed tannins, and easily capable of 5-10 years in the cellar which will see the wine blossom.
$44.00 for a big-name commune Red Burgundy from the great 2010 vintage is not much at all! The days of buying 2010's are fast coming to a close.
