An incredible lineup of wines from ancient vines including some VERY RARE MAGNUMS
The wines of Domaine Gauby hold an exalted place amongst the wines of France. Gerard, assisted by his son Lionel and wife Ghislaine, has almost single-handedly re-established the wines of south-west France. Domaine Gauby is featured in Clive Coates' The Great Wines of France alongside DRC, Rousseau, de Vogue and all of the big name Bordeaux.
In addition to the "standard" wines which go up to remarkable La Muntada, they make a series of individual varietals mostly from exceptionally old vines.
My allocation in the past has been between 1 and 6 bottles of these wines so I have never offered them for sale. But as we have now been doing business for a number of years I have been granted a decent allocation which includes some exceptionally rare magnums (almost no one in the world has these magnums for sale).
The special wines include the reds: La Foun (Carignan), Coume Ginestre (Grenache), La Jasse (Mouvedre) and La Roque (Grenache) and the white La Roque (coplanted Muscat d'Alexandre and Muscat Petit Grains).
I tasted the current vintage when I visited in 2011 and I was blown away. From memory all of the wines were from a single cask. There is very little made.
The domaine has sent their reviews from the 2014 La Revue du Vin de France - the best of the French publications. The scores are phenomenal. Numerous 19 and 19.5 point wines and even a 20 point wine. Most winemakers are happy with 15.5 or 16 as this is considered a very good score.

In some cases our increased allocation is still only 6 bottles and you can guess where a few will go!
Gerard Gauby is considered one of France's superstars and his wines are very exciting. He uses Burgundy as his reference and even his wines from very old vines and Rhone varietals manage to retain an unusual elegance. The wines are incredibly famous in France and now winelovers in Australia can enjoy the full range.
