Chassagne-Montrachet 2010 Dinner at Bacash. Monday 23 September 2013

Bacash Chassagne Dinner Header

Dinner number 2 in our "Terroirs of Burgundy" Series features the 2010 Whites of Chassagne-Montrachet

Our next Melbourne Wine Dinner focuses on Chassagne-Montrachet. Chassagne-Montrachet is the most southern of the major communes of the Cote d'Or. It is famous for its white wines which can be rich, elegant, mineral and powerful depending on the vineyard and maker.

Over dinner we will look at a range of white wines from Villages, through Premier Cru and then Grand Cru levels. The dinner will give you an idea of the terroir of the commune and its vineyards and provide some insight into the different makers. Full tasting notes wil be supplied.

The first bracket comprises 4 Villages wines from different makers. Here we see the craft of the winemaker. Bracket two comprises four Premier Crus from different parts of Chassagne-Montrachet and it is with these wines we will clearly see the difference location, aspect and soil can make. Bracket three comprises three wines from the Premier Cru Morgeot vineyard. This vineyard has numerous climats (small parcels) and those with vines in the finest parts add the name of the climat to the label. Are the wines that different?

To finish we will taste a Pair of Grand Crus. Roger Belland is the largest landowner in Criots-Batard-Montrachet. Yet not many pople know his wines. Chateau de la Maltroye make one of the most serious Batard-Montrachet but in tiny quantities. Just one barrel (300 bottles) of the 2010 was produced!

The wines will be accompanied by a 4-course meal at Bacash. It will be an enjoyable evening with a little bit of education thrown in.
