Monopole Magic - 2 Outstanding Clos in Puligny-Montrachet. Last chance!

Chartron Monopole Header

"Jean-Michel Chartron has been on a hot streak for several years now and one day the wine world is going to wake up to the superb quality of these wines and they are going to become
much more difficult to source."

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar Issue 42 on the 2011 Vintage

Domaine Jean Chartron has a magnificent range of wines from Puligny-Montrachet and nearby. The Grand Crus include Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne.

On top of that there is a range of Premier Crus of which two always stand out as extremely special wines. Both are Clos (a walled vineyard) and both are Monopoles (a single owner).

The wines are Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Pucelle and 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret.

The vineyards themselves are well situated. Between them they adjoin all of the Grand Cru vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet. Not surprisingly the wines have more than their fair share of Grand Cru style. They are both complex, mineral, stylish and long. I rate them up there with the 1er Crus of another famous maker who costs around twice the price.

The 2011's are on the way and will arrive later this month. We only
have about 3 cases of each left.

Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Clos de la Pucelle Monopole 2011

Normal Price $179.50

Pre Arrival Price $152.50

Chartron Clos Pucelle Label

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar: The 2011 Clos de la Pucelle is exceptional this year, with a lovely structured personality that still shows off all of the elegance and purity of terroir to come with just a bit of bottle age. The deep, pure and classy nose wafts from the glass in a complex blend of apple, white peach, orange zest, chalky soil tones, a touch of fresh almond and a lovely base of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with a lovely sense of reserve, a rocksolid core, crisp acids and excellent length and grip on the focused and utterly classic finish. 2016-2040+. 93+ Points

Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

Clos du Caillerets Monopole 2011

Normal Price $179.50

Pre Arrival Price $152.50

Chartron Clos Cailleret Label

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar: The 2011 Clos de Caillerets from Domaine Chartron is another superb example of the vintage, wafting from the glass in a stunning mélange of pear, apple, tangerine, complex minerality, lime zest, spring flowers and a discreet base of new wood. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with outstanding soil inflection, a very mineral personality, excellent focus and superb cut and grip on the very long and primary finish. This is electric on the palate, but give it a few years to really blossom and unlock is secondary layers of complexity. A beautiful wine. 2017-2040+. 93+ Points
