A falling Dollar and rising prices ex domaine - get in before prices for these popular Corton Grand Crus rise
It is somewhat unfortunate that the drop in the Australian dollar coincides with news of what will be yet another small vintage in Burgundy.
The pressure is really on producers, many of which have suffered badly with the difficult weather condition of recent vintages.
Prices for 2012 ex domaine will rise - just how much we have to wait and see. With small allocations expected we have been evaluating our remaining stocks of the great 2010 vintage.
It seem somewhat illogical to be selling 2010 at less than the 2011 vintage and certainly at a lower price than what 2012 will be.
So as of 4pm this Friday 16 August 2013 we will be repricing our remaining 2010 Domaine Dubreuil-Fontaine Corton Grand Cru reds to a level representing what we would price them at today based on current exchange rates.
The new prices will be $145.00 a bottle. However, until the 4pm cutoff you can buy the wines at the current price of $129.95. Many of you have tasted the wines and will know just how good they are. At $145.00 a bottle they are great value for a Grand Cru but at $129.95 they are even better! Get in quick, the Clos du Roi is particularly low with just over one case remaining!
Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru 2010
Current Price $129.95
New Price from 16/8/2013 $145.00
Burghound: A brooding, even taciturn dark berry fruit and pungently earthy nose exhibits distinct game and sauvage characters, both of which continue onto the rich, mouth coating and overtly muscular flavors that possess good power and excellent depth and length. This is very firmly structured and should age impeccably well for 15 to 20 years and last 40 to 50. An impressive Clos du Roi. Drink 2025+ 93 Points
Corton Bressandes Grand Cru 2010
Current Price $129.95
New Price from 16/8/2013 $145.00
Burghound: As with the Vergelesses, there is mild reduction present that in this case is sufficiently slight that it doesn't unduly detract from the sense of aromatic freshness exhibited by the red currant, plum and soil-inflected nose. There is excellent size and weight to the very rich, round and impressively complex broad-shouldered flavors that display a subtle minerality on the refined, balanced and strikingly long finish. This is a Bressandes that will age for years yet is not so firmly structured that it won't be approachable young. Drink 2022+ 93 Points
Corton Perrieres Grand Cru 2010
Current Price $129.95
New Price from 16/8/2013 $145.00
Darker fruit spectrum than the Bressandes. Mineral and medium bodied with a fine spine running through the wine. This too is a handsome style and in 2010 the freshness and vibrancy make this quite unique. The prettiest of the trio with delightful life on the palate. Don't miss this wine - it is very special.
