John Gilman (A View from the Cellar) has just published his 2011 vintage tasting notes for a number of Burgundy domaines including Gilbert and Christine Felettig. He is a strong supporter of the vintage and an outspoken critic of "inexperienced commentary". If you would like to read his recent thoughts, and I suggest all Burgundy lovers should, click here.
His reviews of Domaine Gilbert and Christine Felettig are very strong. He states "These are really lovely wines and this is clearly a domaine on the rise in Chambolle-Musigny".
Both Burghound and I echo his thoughts. I found the Felettig wines to be incredibly successful in 2011.
They have conjured up some of the darkest, most complex wines of the vintage. The depth of colour, extract, flavour and character is more akin to 2010. The wines are very precise and demand time in the cellar. By any reckoning they are exceptional wines.
Burghound has been hesitant to score the 2011 vintage too highly. However, I think his tasting notes express how impressive he found the Felettig wines.
I would say that the 2011 Felettig wines are amongst the best I have tasted from the vintage and they are very much worth adding to your cellar. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Feusselottes is dark and brooding, the 1er Cru Carrieres deep and complex from very old vines, the Vosne-Romanee 1er Cru from tiny parcels in Petit-Monts, Reignots and Chaumes is full of spice and classic V-R and the Echezeaux is a great example. The other wines are also extremely good with the terroir highly visible, one of the features of 2011.
We don't have a lot to sell, as none of Felettig's Villages, Premier Cru or Grand Cru holdings are larger than 0.5 ha. For some wines we have just 2 cases available!
Click here to view and order the wines on our website. There are tasting notes and details of the composition of each wine. Orders may also be placed by email to sales@grandmillesime.com.au or phone. Don't miss these brilliant 2011 Red Burgundies!
