The 2011 vintage marks a return to a classic style with beautiful aromatics, fresh fruit, low alcohol and elegant, fine grained tannins. It would be a mistake not to include these wines in your cellar as they display a delightful "old-fashioned" character that is, all too often, lost with today's desire for supercharged wines.
After discussing the vintage with 40 or more wine makers in Burgundy I can tell you that they are very pleased with the wines. Quite a few consider them superior to 2010. Burgundy does not have to be big, dark and structured to be great. The British critics seem to understand this.
One of the stars of the 2011 vintage is the Bonnes-Mares from George Lignier. We have a small amount remaining but be warned, once I return to Australia next week, prices of all Georges Lignier 2011's will rise by 10-15% due to the fall in the value of the Australian Dollar.

Tim Atkin MW: This was the last wine I tasted in en primeur week, and it was a fitting way to end. This is a pale, and delightfully traditional red, with the emphasis on balance rather than power. Sweet, elegant and almost delicate. 95 Points
A delicious wine from a serious and age-worthy Grand Cru vineyard.
