I am starting to see pricing for 2012 Burgundy and it won't be happy for anyone. Most domaines have lost the equivalent of a full vintage over the last three years and with another top vintage in hand in 2012 they are eager to get the books back into the black.
But there are still some bargains out there which we are always keen to sniff out.
As we all know 2010 is a classic year. There are great wines at all levels. The wines were priced before the two tiny vintages of 2011 and 2012 and now these wines look like absolute bargains.
One of recent discoveries was Domaine Maillard who have a lovely range of appellations including the Grand Cru Red Corton Renardes. And they still have some 2010 left at any outstanding price.
Even allowing for the soft Australian Dollar we can still sell this Grand Cru at $115.00 a bottle by the Case! You can't buy many 1er Crus at that price!
Corton Renardes Grand Cru 2010
Pre Arrival $125.00
Case of 12 Bottles $1380.00 (=$115.00 a bottle!)
From 4 parcels in Renardes. Vine age 25-50 years. 70% new oak.
The outstanding red of this cellar. Lively nose with a hint of Renardes funk. The wine explodes in the mouth; liquorice, tar, animale and a little earth. Considerable fine grained tannins and a very persistant finish. Great Corton, great 2010 Red Burgundy.
Trust me, this is top shelf Corton. The 2012 will be considerably more expensive. Buy a case and pop it in the cellar, you'll patr yourself on the back in a decade's time.

The domaine also has reds from Aloxe-Corton, Beaune, Saviigny-les-Beaune and Volnay plus a fantastic Corton Blanc. And all from 2010!
