Who made Burghound's Top Batard-Montrachet of 2011. Was it Leflaive, Sauzet, Blain-Gagnard?
No, it was Chateau de la Maltroye, who along with Henri Boillot, was the only domaine to score 95 Points for their 2011 Batard-Montrachet.
Jean-Pierre Cornut is one of the superstars of Chassagne-Montrachet. The domaine's holdings include several of the finest sites in the commune and like the man himself the wines are serious and complex.
The rarest and most expensive wine in the portfolio is Batard-Montrachet. In 2011 just 600 bottles were produced. It is always a special wine but in 2011 it has really excelled, trumping big name Batard-Montrachet from Domaine Leflaive (92-94 Points) and Sauzet (92-95) to name just two.
To celebrate Chateau de la Maltroye's success for a limited time we offer their stunning 2011's at our original Pre Arrival Prices.

Burghound: Here the strikingly complex nose is much more restrained with its elegant array of white fl owers, apple, pear, lemon and spice elements. There is superb concentration to the big, weighty and powerful flavors that, almost incongruously, possess a lilting palate impression before terminating in a driving and positively bone dry finish. This is distinctly tight and backwards and unlike some of its stable mates
in 2011 will probably not drink well young as this will require a minimum of 5 to 6 years of bottle age to flesh out as the finish is decidedly linear at present. 95 Points

Burghound's #2 Chassagne-Montrachet from the 2011 Vintage
|
Domaine Morey-Coffinet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchots Dessus
One of only 2 wines to score 93 Points (the other is Chateau de la Maltroye 1er Cru La Dent de Chien).
Burghound: (from a miniscule .064 ha of 25+ year old vines; Blanchots-Dessus abuts Montrachet on its southern end). This is the most aromatically complex wine among the Morey 1ers in 2011 with its gorgeously layered nose of citrus zest, various white flowers and essence of pear nuances. There are round and lavishly textured medium weight plus flavors that possess a silky palate impression on the powerful, focused and driving finish. This well-concentrated effort culminates in a markedly dry and moderately austere finish and this is very much like a smaller-scaled Montrachet. A Sweet Spot Wine. 93 Points
