48 hours left to Save 25% on Domaine Castagnier Grand Cru Burgundies

Castagnier Offer Ends Header

Wow! We had a  terrific response to Friday's email for Grand Cru Burgundy from Domaine Castagnier. Numerous wines are well on the way to selling out. Our Pre Arrival 25% discount offer will end 9am this Wednesday. Get your order in soon!

Grand Cru Burgundies from the Cote de Nuits for just $123.00!

I met Jerome Castagnier at the Grands Jours de Bourgogne last year. To be honest I had tasted the wines of his father which were previously imported into Australia and had not been particularly impressed. The domaine had great vineyards but the wines did not excite.

But something had changed.

I spoke with Jerome and he explained he had taken control following the retirement of his father Guy in 2007. And like so many of these generational changes in Burgundy the quality of the wines had soared. He explained they no longer had an Australian importer and invited me to visit his winery in Morey-St-Denis.

Castagnier Roche Bottle The tasting that ensued showed me just how good the new wines of Domaine Castagnier are. They capture the essence of their appellations and with a bevy of old vines they have depth and texture. They are charming with delicious flavours.

A glance at the price list ensured further joy as the wines are very reasonably priced. In fact the Grand Crus are much the same price as many producers' Premier Crus. They are incredible bargains in today's market.

We struck a deal and we have an allocation of the new 2011 vintage to offer.

As charming as Jerome is he is a little disorganized or very busy, or perhaps both. We are still waiting for label images so our website presentation looks a little bare. Castagnier's wines are not reviewed by Burghound but are very well critiqued by the major French Guides Bettane and Desseauve and Le Guide Hachette des Vins. Alas, being annual publications the 2011 reviews have not yet been published.

I assure you from my tasting this is a domaine to watch. If I was not impressed by what I saw I would not be importing the wines.

With the lack of information I figure we need to make our initial offer very attractive. Until 9 am Wednesday 2 May 2013, instead of the usual 15% Pre Arrival Discount, we offer a 25% discount. This makes the wines extremely affordable. There has been considerable interest in the reds in particular so we are well on the way to selling our allocation.

Here's what is available in Reds:

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru $123.00

Clos de la Roche Grand Cru $123.00

Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru $123.00

Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru $138.95

Gevrey-Chambertin $57.75

Morey-St-Denis $57.75

Chambolle-Musigny $57.75

Don't forget about the Villages wines. They too are very good. The Morey-St-Denis is almost entirely from the 1er Cru Aux Cheseaux. Jerome also has a selection of whites (including Chevalier-Montrachet and Corton-Charlemagne) from the negociant arm of his business. These wines are listed on our website.

Or you may order by email or phone. Our special Pre Arrival Offer ends 9am Wednesday 22 May 2013. Full payment is required with order at these super prices. The wines have just been bottled and will be shipped in our next container.
