Rosso di Montalcino 2009

Altesino Ross Montalcino Normally $49.00

Special $29.40

100% Sangiovese. Spends 7 months in Slavonian oak barrels.

John Gilman, A View from the Cellar: The 2009 Rosso di Montalcino from Altesino is a very lovely bottle that harkens back stylistically to the wines made at this estate twenty years ago. The wine is aged for seven or eight months in old, large botti and the 2009's measured alcohol level of 13.5 percent allows the wine to show off an impressive degree of precision on both the nose and palate. The bouquet is a classy and focused blend of red and black cherries, a touch of orange peel, coffee, fresh herbs and a nice base of soil. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, impressively complex and moderately tannic, with lovely structure and balance and really very good length and grip on the fine finish. This is decidedly superior to many examples of Brunello I have tasted in the last year and is a superb value.

Wine Advocate: The 2009 Rosso di Altesino is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in stainless steel. It is a tasty entry-level wine laced with sweet red cherries, tobacco and spices well-suited to near-term drinking. 87 Points

Couly-Dutheil Gravieres Label

From the Loire Valley we offer the 2009 Chinon Les Gravieres from the famous estate of Couly-Dutheil.

Les Gravieres is made from 100% Cabernet Franc grown in gravel and sandy soils along the River Vienne. The grapes are manually harvested and destemmed. Cropping is a modest 45 Hl/Ha.

This wine is made to be enjoyed young.  It is fruity and fresh with juicy Cabernet Franc flavours. It is a pleasant, not too complicated wine for summer drinking.
