Domaine de Cristia's Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Renaissance is a wine every CdP lover should have in their cellar. It comes from a 1.5 hectare plot in the lieu-dit Le Cristia which is immediately south of Rayas. Recent blends have been 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvedre. The Grenache vines used are over a century old, the Mourvedre a youthful 50+ years of age.

Cuvee Renaissance 2009
The Rhone Report:
Lush and ripe, but with solid underlying structure, the 2009 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Renaissance is a blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Mourvèdre, with the Mourvèdre seeing some barrel aging and the Grenache seeing only tank. The wine is full and fleshy with sweet blackberry and cassis styled fruits that are balanced by licorice, roasted meat, subtle flowers, and solid minerality that shows on both the nose, and the on the finish. Decadently fruited on the palate, with a full-bodied, textured mid-palate, sweet fruit, and ripe tannin that shines on the finish. This needs a year or three to integrate and should have an easy 15+ years of prime drinking. 95 Points
Cuvee Renaissance 2010
The Rhone Report:
In contrast, the 2010 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape Renaissance - a 60/40 blend of Grenache and Mourvedre - is aged all in barrel, with the Grenache seeing only neutral oak and the Mourvedre aged all in new oak. Showing spectacularly, it offers a thrilling array of blackberry, cassis, wild herbs, flowers, and roasted meats, with only a hint of graphite showing from its stint in barrel. Every bit as good on the palate, with brilliant freshness, fantastic purity, and a powerful, yet focused overall mouth-feel, this knockout offering needs a solid 4-6 years of bottle age, and will have upwards of two decades of overall longevity. 97 Points
