The 2010 Moissenet-Bonnard Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses 2010 has been tremendously popular. We purchased every bottle we could from the domaine but now we are down to just 9 cases. If you want the Premier Cru Burgundy bargain of the year please don't delay.
One of the things the French wine critics do far better than their English-speaking counterparts is discover up and coming producers. They are not tied to the same group of crowd-pleasers year-in, year-out.
Both Bettane and Desseauve and Les Guides Hachette de Vins have sung the praise of the latest addition to our portfolio in the their 2012 guides.
Domaine Moissenet-Bonnard is small. Bettane and Desseauve say artisinal. The domaine has been in the same family for eight generations. They produce 13 different wines from their tiny estate and I have decided to concentrate on their terrific reds.
Most are from Pommard where they have a fine selection of lieut-dits and premier crus. But one little gem is their Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses.
This vineyard is the best sited in the commune with stony soil over limestone - perfect for making quality red wines. If you don't know where Auxey-Duresses is (which is perfectly fine) I can tell you that it abuts Meursault and is a kilometre from Volnay. Not a bad part of the world.
To introduce the wines of Moissenet-Bonnard to Australia we have negotiated some unbelievable prices. On top of that we have secured stocks of 2010 as well as 2011 which provides a delightful contrast.
All of the wines are tremendous value but the Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru Les Duresses is stellar buying at just
$38.95 a bottle Pre Arrival.
Where else can you buy a Premier Cru Red for this price? Both the 2010 and 2011 are worth owning. The 2010 is dark and more serious, the 2011 savoury and more perfumed. Drink the 2011 whilst the 2010 develops in the cellar.
And you should not miss the Pommards from some top vineyards as they too are great value.
