More Wine Dinners! Treat yourself to some great wine and food events

Dinners Tastings Header
We have been stunned at the interest in our dinners. So much so that we have added two more to our schedule including a look at the newly arrived 2018 vintage from Bordeaux.
Get out and enjoy some great wine, food and company! But don't wait too long to book. Others are thinking exactly the same thing!
"2018 - A legendary vintage"
The 2018 vintage in Bordeaux has produced some simply magnificent wines including a plethora of bottlings rating from 96-100 Points.
It has been a long time since our last Bordeaux Dinner and we thought the newly arrived 2018’s present an opportunity too good to miss.
We have assembled 10 Reds and 2 Sauternes from 2018 to showcase at this dinner. There are some exceptional wines, including three 100-Pointers!
We have split the wines into Pairs so we can features two wines from each of five different communes. Both the left and right banks are represented.
The dinner will be jointly hosted by Thomas Robertson, Victorian Account Manager for Negociants Australia and Darren Harris, Managing Director of Grand Millesime.
It promises to be informative and fun. Don’t miss this opportunity to taste some serious new Bordeaux.

A Grand Cru Dinner for just $295.00!

Corton is the largest Grand in Burgundy. it is also the only Grand Cru to produce white and red of equal quality. Corton Grand Cru actually encompasses wines in three communes: Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serigny and Pernand-Verglesses. Whilst the Villages and Premier Crus of the three communes are labelled with the Villages’ name the Grand Crus all use the name Corton.

There are 145 hectares of Corton Grand Cru spread around the upper parts of the limestone “Hill of Corton”. The top of the lozenge-shaped hill is covered in dense woodland, known as the Bois de Corton. It is quite unusual to look at.

Corton was given its grand cru status in 1937, around the same time as most of Burgundy's other famous grand cru sites. However, Corton's reputation goes back much further - wines were first made here during Charlemagne's rule, which ended in AD814. Corton's wines were a favorite of the Emperor, who lends his name to the white wines made on the western side of the hill.

Vines occupy the slopes of the hill for almost its entire circumference, although the grand cru rating covers only the southern half, sweeping majestically around from due east to due west. On the western side, the limestone soils are closer to the surface and this is reflected in the mostly white wines made from these vineyards. The eastern side is a touch warmer - being more exposed to the morning sunshine - and richer in the marlstone that is so well suited to Pinot Noir.

The classic Corton red wine is rich and relatively tannic, meaning that it is quite austere in its youth but develops well with age. Corton tasting notes often refer to flavors of violets, forest berries, leather and earthy notes. Corton-Charlemagne is considered to be one of the finest of Burgundy's white wines and is famous for its combination of fruit flavors (figs and baked pears) and mineral character (flint) - the latter being particularly prevalent in wines from the cooler western slopes.

Corton does not enjoy the same reputation as the Grand Cru reds from Vosne-Romanee or whites from Puligny-Montrachet. But what is does offer is wines that age incredibly well. And the prices here are far more reasonable than its more famous cousins.

The last decade has seen a resurgence in the quality of Corton Grand Crus and the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti’s move into the area has raised awareness and respect for the wines of this region.

Our Corton Dinner features 13 different wines from a selection of producers and climats. We start with two whites before delving in to 3 brackets of reds that move back in time and finish with a Corton Bressandes from the great 1999 vintage. We will have the opportunity to compare vineyards and makers and see the effect of age on the Grand Crus of Corton.

We like to do things properly! None of this one wine per course nonsense. Taste and compare and increase your Burgundy knowledge whilst having an enjoyable evening.

For the cost of one bottle you can taste these 13 Grand Crus. To read tasting notes for the wines click here. There are some huge scores!

There are only 12 seats available for this dinner.

Taste and compare 12 Different Volnay Premier Crus from the 2019 vintage!

Volnay has become the go-to commune for high quality Premier Crus at reasonable prices.
It boasts some 29 Premier Crus that range from light and perfumed to (relatively) rich and powerful. The two things the wines all share is an aromatic nose and a refined palate. This makes Volnay easy to enjoy in its youth and the inherent balance allows the wines to be long lived.
We import four Volnay producers each with their own style and range of vineyards.
We have assembed 12 wines from these four producers for our first dinner of 2022. All of the wines are from the great 2019 vintage.
The opportunity to taste and compare 12 different Premier Crus from the same vintage is quite special. We will arrange the wines into 4 brackets each comprising 3 wines.
For students of Burgundy this will be an educational exercise. For those who enjoy drinking fine wine this will be a delightful dinner.

A superb lineup of highly rated Premier Crus
First table sold out. We have added a second

Our shipment of 2018’s from Albert Bichot arrived during one of the lockdowns.
There are many amazing wines in both white and red and it would be a shame not to taste as many as possible before they are all gone.
To get the ball rolling we have assembled a lineup of 12 Premier Crus - 3 whites and 9 reds. Almost all of the wines have scores of 94, 95, 96 and even 97 Points which is indicative of what great wines they are. You can read the tasting notes here.
We have booked two tables for 12 at Vesper on Thursday 2 December 2021 where we will enjoy a superb 4-course dinner accompanying the 12 wines. It will be fantastic to share great wine, food and company once again.
If you would like to attend please book in soon. We’re sure this will be a popular event.

13 wines from the outstanding 2019 vintage
The 2019 vintage is certainly a great one for red Burgundy. If you have not tasted the wines you really should make the effort.
Most of our 2019’s arrived during the year but due to on-again, off-again lockdowns we have not been able to schedule a dinner to showcase the wines.
The time has come and on the 14 December we have a dinner featuring Four Top Producers.
We will start with Domaine Bony Gachot. This is a new producer for us. The wines are made by Fabienne Bony who has a real delicate touch.
We will follow them with a bracket of Premier Crus from Domaine Coste-Caumartin. They include the majestic Pommard 1er Cru Le Clos des Boucherottes Monopole 2019.
The third producer is Domaine Marchand-Grillot. Located in Gevrey-Chambertin this small domaine is known for its old vines and stylish winemaking.
To finish off it is Domaine Rene Cacheux. The three wines include his Vosne-Romanee Premier Crus - Les Beaux Monts and Les Suchots.
We only have 12 places for this dinner so if you wish to taste this fine range of 2019 Red Burgundies you will need to book quickly.
