Domaine Buffet own six Premier Cru Volnay and three Premier Cru Pommard. The variety of their holdings makes for some very interesting and varied expressions of terroir.
The domaine prefers to keep things simple and 8 of the 9 Premier Crus sell for the same price.
Today, with a special 25% discount, that makes these wines just $115.50 a bottle. That's great buying for Premier Crus.

Nose of red cherries and confit strawberry with underlying lifted spices. The nose suggests juiciness typical of this site. On the plate we see the same juicy fruit. The wine is round and plush, mouthfilling and supple with considerable charm. The spicy notes waft in and out adding extra complexity and interest. Delicious!

Wow! Not what I expected! Deep and exciting on the nose. Profound! Creamy raspberry and strawberry notes but structured with mineral undertones. Juicy, vibrant. Quite gorgeous in the way it coats the palate. Great acidity. Long and tangy on the finish.

The palate and sleek and long. It is not fleshy like Les Village - it is more athletic - with understated power that builds towards the back palate. The fruit is beautifully ripe with cool cherry, raspberry, spice and minerals. There is a touch of wildness and back notes of dried herb and smoke. Complex. Clos de la Rougeotte is never an obvious wine. It is a wine that provokes thought whilst slowly unravelling in the glass.

30% whole bunch fermentation here. Slightly the darkest of the three colours, this is less exuberantly explosive than Clos des Chênes but has a tighter structure. Will take longer to come round. 91 Points

Bright deep red. Very spicy nose with strong mineral notes and maraschino cherry. Some whole bunch adding additional complexity. The palate is rocky and refined with savoury elements contrasting with the cherry fruit. Long, fine and stylish.

The 2017 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru has a far superior bouquet compared to the Village Cru, featuring bright red cherry and crushed strawberry scents. The medium-bodied palate is cohesive and poised, displaying fine tannin and an attractive dash of cracked black pepper toward the finish. Excellent. (Drink between 2022-2038). 92 Points

Perfumed nose of raspberry, strawberry and a hint of white pepper. Spicy palate with fine texture, almost creamy in the mouth. Obvious old vines. Expansive and complex. Mountains of interest. Finishes long and intense. Seriously good.

30% whole bunch fermentation here. Dense bright purple with a lush weight of fruit on the nose, very attractive and greater sensuality compared to the Clos de la Rougeotte. Indeed this is a big step up.. 91 Points

Darker than Champans with cherry/blackberry fruit. Dense, powerful and tightly coiled. More extract than the other cuvees and fuller on the palate. Finishes with more tannin and acid - this needs time. It will be a great bottle for those with patience.
Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens 2017

As Jasper Morris MW says “The most sought-after of the Pommard vineyards”. Dark and deep. The most aromatic of the Pommards with a complex nose of black cherry, blackberry, violet and dark chocolate. More brooding. Long, precise and engaging palate with more fruit weight (than the other Pommard) and excellent mouth feel. Very textured with old vine intensity. Serious stuff! Pop it in the cellar.
Pommard 1er Cru Clos Micot 2017

On the Volnay side of Pommard and one of only two Premier Crus on the eastern side of the D973. Medium red, light and bright. Fragrant, floral, nose with strawberry, raspberry and woody spices. The palate is tight and elegant with a feminine charm unusual in Pommard. With time in the glass the spice notes developed and the wine became very interesting with fine texture and fresh aromatics. A Pommard for Volnay lovers.
Pommard 1er Cru Les Poutures 2017

Poutures lies across the D974 from Clos Micot in a line under Rugiens. Deeper in colour. Nose of dark cherry and currants with a stony-quartz character. Mid palate is bright and juicy with more weight than Clos Micot. Fresh acidity. Quite profound, just needs more time in the bottle. Finishes with long, fine grain tannins.
